Where the colour comes from
Purple’s standing at funerals is liturgical before it is aesthetic. It is the colour of Lent and Advent in the Western church — penitence and preparation — which is why clergy vestments turn purple in the seasons of waiting, and why the colour reads as solemn rather than merely rich. Outside the church it carried a separate association with royalty for the plainest of reasons: Tyrian purple dye was ruinously expensive, so only rulers wore it.
Beyond the booklet
A purple service usually extends past the booklet. Families order purple and white flower arrangements, ask ushers or the immediate family to wear a purple ribbon, and drape the tent in the same tone. If you are printing the programme in purple, decide the flowers first — a bright violet booklet beside a lavender casket spray reads as a mismatch rather than a scheme.

Lisianthus, statice and purple chrysanthemums are the florist standards, and white lilies alongside them keep the arrangement from going flat. Take the printed programme to the florist rather than describing the shade over the phone.
