The dove carries two meanings at once and both are in play at a funeral: peace, from the bird returning to the ark with an olive leaf, and the Holy Spirit, from the baptism accounts. Which one a guest reads depends entirely on the guest, and the ambiguity is useful — the same cover works for a devout congregation and a secular one.
