Why we do it this way

You're planning a farewell, often in days. The last thing you need is a subscription to cancel, an account to create, or a price that appears at step seven. The free tier is genuinely print-ready — a family that can't pay still buries their loved one with a dignified programme. If TributeFold helped, the small once-off keeps it running — and it is a once-off, not a subscription you will have to remember to cancel.

What the watermark actually is

It matters that you can see this before you decide. The free download is not a preview, a sample or a low-resolution teaser — it is the same print-ready PDF at the same quality, carrying one small line reading “Made with TributeFold — tributefold.com”, set at 8.5pt in a soft brown-grey and centred in the footer of each page, inside the printable margin. It is nowhere near the photograph. Families do print it, and it does not spoil the booklet.

Paying removes that line. Nothing else changes: same layout, same fonts, same resolution, same pages. There is no second tier with better templates, and there never will be — every design, every language and every export format is available before you pay anything.

What $11.95 is, next to what a funeral costs

A funeral in South Africa runs to tens of thousands of rand. Against that, the honest comparison for this purchase is not other software — it is the printing itself. Our own printing guide puts an A5 bifold at roughly R2–R4 a copy in black and white and R4–R8 in full colour, so a run of 150 programmes costs somewhere between R300 and R1,200 at the shop. The unlock is $11.95 once, on top of that, for the file itself.

Funeral homes and stationers commonly bundle programme design into the service package, where it is neither itemised nor editable, and a spelling correction means going back to them. The reason this site exists is that a family should be able to fix a name at eleven at night without phoning anyone.

Currency, tax and who takes the payment

The price is $11.95 US dollars, shown as a fixed R199 to visitors in South Africa. That rand figure is deliberately fixed rather than converted live — a price that wobbles with the exchange rate between one page and the next looks like something to distrust, and on this site it would be.

Payment is handled by Paddle, who act as the merchant of record. In plain terms: Paddle takes the payment, handles any VAT or sales tax your country requires, and their name — not ours — is what appears on your card statement. We never see or store your card details at any point.

The 90 days after you pay

Programmes change after they are “finished”. A name is spelled wrong, a tribute is added, the vigil moves. For 90 days after your purchase you can reopen the programme, edit it and download it again as many times as you need, without paying again. After 90 days the free tier simply returns — the watermark comes back and the programme is still there. We promised 90 days, so that is what the code does.

One thing to understand about how that works, because it follows from how this site is built: your programme lives in your own browser, not on our servers. We never receive what you type. That is the privacy promise — and it means the unlock is tied to the browser you paid in. Keep the receipt email; if you change device or clear your browser data within the 90 days, email us with it and we will sort you out.

Common questions about paying

Is there any way to end up on a subscription?
No. There is one product on this site and it is a single payment. No trial that converts, no plan, no card kept on file for later. If you ever see a recurring charge from us, it is a mistake and we will refund it.
Do I need an account?
No, and there is nowhere to make one. You are not asked for an email address to use the editor, only for a receipt at checkout. Nothing is stored against your name because there is no name to store it against.
Can I pay once and make programmes for two services?
Within the 90 days, yes — the unlock is not tied to a single document. Families holding a memorial and then an unveiling months later have used the same purchase for both, and that is fine by us.
What if the download does not work?
Email hello@tributefold.com with your receipt. We will fix it or refund you in full — see refunds for exactly how that works. You are dealing with enough this week without having to argue about $11.95.
Can we genuinely just use the free version?
Yes, and some families should. If money is tight, print the watermarked version — it is a dignified programme and nobody at the service will be looking at a grey line in the margin. We would rather that than a family choosing between this and the catering.
