Printing this design
A dark charcoal cover with geometric deco rules: heavy ink coverage, and one of only three designs here that genuinely needs a colour-capable printer rather than a photocopier. The deco lines are bold enough to survive reproduction, unlike filigree, but the dark ground is not — expect visible banding if the printer is an older office laser.
Choosing the photograph
The rectangular crop against a dark ground favours a photograph with strong contrast and a defined subject. Soft, low-contrast pictures sink into the charcoal. Black-and-white photographs work exceptionally well here, more so than in any other design in the set.
Questions about Deco Memoriam
- Is this too stylised for a funeral?
- It is the most designed design on the site, and it suits a particular person rather than a general occasion — someone with a defined aesthetic, or a life in the arts. Where there is doubt, it is not the one to choose.
- Do black-and-white photographs suit it?
- Better than colour, in most cases. The charcoal ground and geometric rules were drawn around monochrome, and an old black-and-white portrait sits in this design as though it was made for it.
- What does it cost to print?
- More than the light designs — the dark cover is heavy on ink and shops may quote by coverage. Ask for a price on the actual file rather than a per-page rate before committing to a large run.
