Isaiah 25:6–9 — He Will Swallow Up Death in Victory

Why families choose it

Isaiah looks past one death to the end of death itself — a feast spread on the mountain, the shroud that lies over every nation destroyed, and God himself wiping the tears from every face. It is the passage Paul reached for when he wrote that death is swallowed up in victory. For mourners who need more than consolation — who need to hear that this enemy loses — this is the largest promise in the Old Testament.

Reading it aloud

The feast comes first and the promise second — do not rush the wines and the marrow to get to the famous line. Take a full breath before ‘He will swallow up death in victory’ and let it land plainly, without force. The last verse is spoken by the waiting people, not the prophet; read ‘Lo, this is our God’ as though the congregation were saying it with you.
